Our Story

Learn about our history and work

Get to know the people behind the name.

As you may have read on our homepage, we are the non-stuffy small business advisors. I fully believe you can take a relationship-based approach to business growth while still understanding your numbers forwards and backwards.

It’s with 40+ collective years experience in accounting, tax preparation and strategic business planning, that my partners and I are better prepared to advise our small business clients on the most effective ways to scale a small business.

We come to every conversation as honest people truly looking for ways to help others. And I think people are smart enough to recognize a sales pitch or inauthentic angles. They just want real.

Together with our team of 15 employees, real, honest and revenue-driven advice and support is what my partners and I are here to provide.

If that sounds like an approach you want to work with, let’s talk!

– Brian Moyer, Founding Partner

Getting Started

We officially launched Moyer & Company (originally Moyer Financial Services) in January of 2013 with a single goal:

Serve the often-missed accounting needs of Entrepreneurs, Creatives, and Small Business Owners.

First Office

Together as a husband and wife team, we opened the doors to our first office in Historic Franklin, Tennessee in June 2014 to accommodate our quickly expanding team.

Second Office

We expanded our service area with a new office in Chattanooga after noticing an increase in the number of customers looking for our non-stuffy approach to accounting, financial planning and tax preparation.

Continued Growth

As our team grew to meet the needs of our ever-expanding client portfolio, we realized the time had come to physically expand with new offices in Franklin and Chattanooga, the former with twice the footprint of our first one.

Meet the Partners

No borning, unapproachable number crunchers here. Get to know the partners leading our business strategy and accounting teams.

Brian Moyer

Founding Partner

As part of a heavy rock band, Brian discovered he had a head for numbers and an obsession for operational efficiency. After years of working for larger companies, Brian set out on his own with wife, Carla, to start a business directly serving the small business owner.

When launching in downtown Franklin, you might see Brian conversing about his family or the outdoors, trucks or tattoos, Michigan football or theology. He’s never met a stranger – So feel free to say Hi!

  • Business Degree from MTSU, post-graduate accounting-specific credit hours
  • Advisory Board Member for the Downtown Franklin Association
  • 15+ years of experience in private accounting

Carla Moyer, CPA

Tax Partner

Did you know there are Payroll Tax Competitions for high schoolers? Well, Carla won her competition and was top ten for math. This woman is not intimidated by taxes! She puts her skills to work in helping people not be overwhelmed. She brings the calm into their tax-storm.

When Carla’s not chasing storms, she’s having fun with husband Brian and their girls. For her own personal calm, Carla’s off to yoga or curled up with a good book – but don’t let this introvert confuse you – her loud southern drawl might be the first thing you hear walking in our door!

  • 20+ years experience in public accounting
  • Licensed Certified Public Accountant since 2008
  • Accounting Degree from Belmont University

Joe Stevens, CPA

Tax Partner

Growing up in Southern Florida, Joe found himself managing operations for a pool company where he got his first taste of running a business. 8 years later, he and his family moved to Tennessee, where he made the transition into the Accounting field.

Currently, his weekends consist mostly of kiddo logistics and watching NY Jets football. He’s really glad Tom Brady retired. Officially.

  • Nearly 15 years experience in public accounting
  • Certified Public Accounting license
  • Accounting Degree from MTSU
